Hello again ! Wondering what single origin means ? People wonder about this more than you think. Sounds like a coffee that comes from one single place. But what is so special about a coffee that comes from one place ?

Hold on tight as we try to demystify yet another coffee geek jargon for you !

Really, what is it all about ?

Single origin coffee is, at its heart, all about purity and specificity. It comes from one place only – whether

that's a single farm, a specific area within a farm, or a unique region in a coffee-producing country. Think of it as having a dish that highlights the unique flavour of a locally sourced ingredient. Single origin coffee offers you a taste of the place it's from, carrying with it the soil's characteristics, the climate, and the farming practices of its region.

Why should I care ?

Because it's a gateway to experiencing coffee in its most authentic form. Each batch tells a story of its origin, offering a unique flavour profile influenced by its homeland. Opting for single origin lets you explore the diverse tapestry of coffee flavours from around the globe, turning each cup into an adventure. It's about connection – to the place, to the farmers, and to the unique taste experiences that await.

Ok I get that, whats the deal with all the country names associated with "Single Origin" coffee ?

A lot of people find it easy to relate to a country of origin as a whole than the actual name of the farm or town which are more definitive of the flavour profile of the coffee. For instance, many of you might find a connection with Single Origin "Ethiopia" or "Indonesia" rather than "Yirgacheffe" or "Krakatau" which are both more specific single origin indicators of the regions or farms within those countries. Lets just say it helps in marketing !

In reality though multiple farms within the same country of origin could have striking variation in flavour profile. Hence the term single-origin is not limited to a country itself but is a factor of the soil quality, climate, cultivation processes and other factors affecting the bean flavour.

There you go ! Single Origin coffee demystified. Soon you might learn about a fun word called "blends" that are nothing but a coffee from multiple origins mixed together, and boy do they taste great ! But this story for another time.
